ECBC & ENS Training Program Organised by Punjab Energy Development Agency in Chandigarh

One Day Training Program organised on ECBC & ENS. ECBC –Energy Conservation Building
Code-2017 & Eco- Niwas Samhita was organised on 13th May at CII, Chandigarh.
Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) is now mandatory in commercial buildings having
a connected load of 100kW or greater or a contract demand of 120kVA. Eco-Niwas Samhita is
applicable to residential buildings having a plot area greater than 500 m2.
For the effective implementation of ECBC & ENS, the Punjab Energy Development Agency
(PEDA) with the support of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) initiated the Capacity
Building Training Programs which are being organised through Design2Occupancy Services
LLP at various locations in the state of Punjab for all stakeholder departments.
Ms. Sonali Giri, IAS, Chief Executive PEDA was the Chief Guest of the program. She talked
about the need for energy conservation in buildings and focused approach towards
implementation of energy efficiency in buildings.

Ms. Sapna, Chief Architect, Department of Architecture, Punjab, was the Guest of Honour in the
program. She talked about what initiatives the department of architecture is taking in order to
bring energy efficiency to their buildings in the state.
Sh. Jaspal Singh, Director, PEDA, Sh. Manav Jain, Town Planner, Sh. Paramjit Singh, Senior
Manager PEDA, was also present on the Dias. Smt. Abha Sharma, Senior Architect, Department
of Architecture, Sh. Manav Jain, Town Planner, Local Government, Sh. Pritpal Singh Ahluwalia,
Walia Creative Architects, Sh. Money Khanna shared their experiences about the importance and
need of energy conservative measures and the need of ECBC & ENS in the State through case
study, presentation and talks.
Sh. Rohit Kumar, Project Engineer, PEDA, Building Cell Coordinators Ar Jasvinder Lal, Er
Shabad Singh and Er Abhishek Kumar were also present in the program.
Sh. Abu Talha Farooqi & Sh. Manoj Singh were the ECBC Master Trainers and they presented
technical sessions on ECBC & ENS. Building Cell talked about the compliance procedure of
ECBC and mentioned that this code is mandatory to comply for all the commercial buildings
while approval of building plans.
This training programme has been attended by officials from various Government Departments,
Architects, Builders, and Institutions from the State. The objective of such training programmes
was to create awareness and implementation of ECBC & ENS in the state of Punjab.
